Galfvensjös Rabbitry

Breeding Svensk Päls and Californian rabbits in Sweden

Rabbit trip to the U.S.

In july/august 2008 me and my family went to a vacation in the U.S. for two weeks. As I'm really rabbit interested we've arranged a visiting at a rabbit show and a rabbitry. I thought it would be really fun to see how things work "IRL" in U.S.

I had asked at some rabbit forums if they knew if it would be any rabbit shows near WI and it was one in Rochester MN. It was only about 1 hour from our friends there we was living so it was perfect.

It was with Swedish eyes a pretty small show with around 250 entries. It was very nice to meet new rabbit peopels, everybody was so nice and friendly, all wanted to tlk with the swedish people who had come to see rabbits.

I was invited to come behind the judge table and explain how we judge rabbits in Sweden and what the differences was between U.S and Swedish rabbits.

Some thing was really different, the Mini Lop that was BIR had a big dewlap and in Sweden we disqualify all dwarf rabbits with dewlaps.

You was also more liberal with the cleanness of the rabbits, some had really yellow paws but the judge didn't say anything about that. In Sweden the judges are hard with that.

You had nice remarkcards but you didn't really use them, you just wrote the remarks lengtwise and crosswise.

If you want to know how we jugde rabbits in Sweden please see here!

I also want to thanks the judges Erik and Debbi very much! They explained everything very nice and they was really nice!

Here is some pictures I took:
